Michael Jenkins - Co Founder

Michael Jenkins is a writer/director of film and TV and believes passionately in the role of film as an engine for change and understanding. Voted among the 100 most influential people in Bristol in the BME power list 2018 he has won multiple awards including two RTS West in 2018 and 2021. ‘PICKNEY’, a short film he wrote and directed - BFI backed- won an audience award at the American Black FilmFestival in 2021. Currently, Michael is a writer in residence for 5 Acts Productions, an ITV studios Label and the co artistic director of the Bristol School of Acting.

Somina Fombo - Co Founder

Somina 'Mena' Fombo is a documentary director and co-founder of Blak Wave Productions creating content for TV, film and digital across the BBC, C4, BET Paramount and the British Film Institute (BFI).

Somina is passionate about crafting narratives that illuminate the intersection of social history with a focus on sports, women, Black and/or queer communities.

Her first documentary The Glorious Ones premiered at BFI Flare London LGBTQ+ film festival in 2022 and she was the first winner of the Iris Prize documentary film fund directing Some Girls Hate Dresses for Out Tv Original & Froot Tv released globally in January 2024. She recently directed No Rucks Given! for TNT Sports as part of the Reframe the Game series, season one in partnership with Warner Brothers Discovery Access.

Somina is also a global speaker with a brilliant TEDx Talk: No you Cannot Touch My Hair , a Breakthrough Leader with the TV Collective, a voting member of BAFTA and an industry coach and mentor developing new talent.

Fun Fact: Somina was in the Team GB American Football Practice Squad, is a two-time national champion with Birmingham Lions Women's American Football Team, and played county rugby for the South East.
