The United Wambo Integrated Coal Project uses the conventional open pit mining process with truck and excavator/bucket operations. The run-of-river coal (ROM) will be transported to the existing coal handling and processing plant (CHP) on site. The Wambo coal mine includes both open pit mines and underground operations. Underground operations at the Wambo site include the Underground Mines North Wambo, South Bates, Arrowfield and Bowfield. North Wambo operations have been completed while South Bates is still in operation. Operations at the other two sites are still pending. Current operations at the Wambo mine site began in 2004 and are eligible to produce 8 Mtpa of coal. Talon supplies 75,000 tonnes of nickel concentrate from Tamarack United Collieries to Tesla and Wambo Coal entered into a joint venture for the United Wambo open-pit mine in November 2014.
